  1. Small business hiring is up.
  2. Small business bankruptcies are down.
  3. Marketing budgets are growing.
  4. Sales of businesses are increasing.

Tice gives the numbers that underscore this news. For example, the blog references the report in BizBen.com that said 1,000 small businesses were sold in California in November this year compared to 24 in November 2009.

If your small business is showing signs of recovery from the economic downturn, your employee travel may do the same. Make sure you’re not paying more for hotels than you have to. to get the hotel discounts that save your company money, sign up today for CheckINN Direct and instantly save 20-40% off hotel’s Lowest Published Rates.

Pay $81, Not $109 — It’s Savings For Your Company

So how much can your small business save when work puts your employees in hotels? This fall we checked pricing for a Holiday Inn around the St. Louis, Mo., area.  Expedia, Priceline and hotels.com listed their price as $109 while AAA had it for $100. CheckINN Direct’s price was $81.

That’s just one example. CheckINN Direct gives you access to low negotiated rates at more than 10,000 hotel locations across the U.S. and Canada. Do you stay with Best Western, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, Ramada, Days Inn and similar economy and mid-scale hotels? Contracts for individual locations within those chains are included.

Hertz Rolls Out Electric Vehicles in 3 Metro Areas Dec. 15

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Hankering to get behind the wheel of an all-electric or plug-in vehicle? Now’s your chance, provided you live in or are traveling to New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco before the month is out.

Those metro areas get the nod from Hertz starting Dec. 15, when electric cars such as the Nissan LEAF and the smart Electric Drive become available to the general public.

If you’re a workforce traveler staying with CheckINN Direct in those areas, expect to see more electric vehicles around you than ever before.

It’s all part of Hertz’ Global EV (that’s “electric vehicle,” of course) initiative. The company plans to provide hundreds of EVs to the Hertz fleet in the launch cities in coming months.

Hertz is trying to make it easy for you, too. Sign up at www.hertzev.com to be among the first to try an electric vehicle with the rental firm. There’s a little catch, though. Before you can book an available EV, you have to sign up for a Connect by Hertz membership. If you sign up between Dec. 8 and Dec. 25, you’ll get a free one-year membership in the program.

Hertz says 2011 is the year that they’ll add the vehicles nationwide and in other countries.

And the EVs? In addition to Nissan, they’re coming from GM, Toyota, smartUSA and Mitsubishi.

Next up: the development of an EV grid leveraged from Hertz’ vehicles and charging stations.

Workforce Travelers Feeling the Pain at the Gas Pump

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Whoa! A  check of the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s  Web site shows nothing but red “up” arrows when it comes to U.S. gasoline and diesel fuel prices this week.

Across the board, in every region, prices are up from a week ago and a year ago, as well. Prices are highest in California for both gas and diesel, showing $3.216 and $3.352 respectively.

In fact, when looking back at where prices were at this time in 2009, the increase feel particularly steep – anywhere from 21 cents to 40 cents higher, depending  on geographic area.

That’s a lot of pain at the pump for workforce travelers visiting job sites, delivery centers and clients in cars, truck and vans across the country.

Experts blame a weak dollar for causing the spike in fuel prices, and the bad news is that it’s not likely to end soon.

There are online tools to help determine what you’ll be paying no matter where you’re traveling for business. Check out AAA Auto Club’s Fuel Calculator, where you enter your city of origin, destination and make and model of your car.

You still can save 20-40% on your workforce lodging, though. CheckINN Direct’s lodging savings card takes the discount off hotels’ Lowest Published Rates, a bargain that’s more appreciated than ever with gas prices off the charts.

Hampton’s Landmark Way To Impress Workforce Travelers Across U.S.

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Companies looking for cost-effective lodging for their workforce travelers may think of hotels simply as places to sleep – and not pay more than you have to.

So we’re taking a moment today to look at a hotel company that’s doing something completely unexpected – in an impressive way that benefits the states we all live in.

We’re talking about the Hampton Hotels Save-A-Landmark program, which starts its 11th year in 2011. This innovative effort helps preserve roadside landmarks across the U.S.

Hampton has just announced five landmarks that will be restored next year (they open voting to the public to choose the projects each fall). The 2011 winners range from a 1913 lighthouse in Kilauea, Hawaii to an historic theater in Rexford, Idaho. (Others include the John Dickinson Plantation in Dover, Del.; the Children’s Museum of Bozeman, Mont.; and the Westerly Armory in Rhode Island.)

Hampton’s Save-A-Landmark program has preserved 55 sites in 45 states and three countries over the past 10 years.

When the 2011 projects are done, the effort will have completed a roadside attraction in each state — at a cost of $2.5 million and more than 8,000 volunteer hours by Hampton employees.

Sleep on that next time you check into a Hampton (you’ll find Hampton Inn locations, for example, that accept our CheckINN Direct  lodging savings card). Impressive!
