Here’s an exciting new innovation for workforce travelers (almost as good as CheckINN Direct saving you 20-40% off hotels). Now a new smartphone app lets you control the TV remote in some hotel rooms when you’re traveling for business.
That’s great news for frequent company travelers who may consider in-room remotes as germ magnets.
USA Today reports that travelers staying in hotels that get in-room TV entertainment from LodgeNet can use its free app for iPhones, iPads and Androids.
Here’s how it works:
Download the app, called LodgeNet Mobile, from your mobile device app store
Follow the directions on how to link to a specific hotel TV
Use the app to control free TV channels, pay-per-view movies and on-demand TV shows
Pay-per-view selections can be charged to your hotel bill or you pay for them separately with the app
Download Before Traveling
Be aware that before you hit the road, you may need to download the app via a computer since its size makes it too large to immediately download on an iPhone, for example.
Currently, LodgeNet has updated its TV systems in about 2,000 hotels for its new app, so it may take awhile before you can put it into practice at your specific workforce lodging. But since LodgeNet can be found in around 500,000 hotel rooms, the app eventually will be useful in many more locations.
You’ll also find that adult-only selections aren’t accessible through the app. But in addition to channel surfing, you can use it to control the TV volume, program guide and TV menu.
Just another convenience for workforce travelers – just like CheckINN Direct from CLC Lodging. When you’re a CheckINN Direct member, your business travel is discounted at more than 10,000 hotels across the U.S. and Canada.

Saving money on your employees’ hotel stays is what CheckINN Direct from CLC Lodging is all about. We’re talking discounts of 20-40% off hotels’ lowest published rates, thanks to the negotiating power CLC leverages from its purchases of more than 10 million room nights a year for clients.
Not surprisingly, CheckINN Direct’s deeply discounted rates are exactly what our customers love most about the program. After all, who isn’t looking for ways to cut company costs?
Here’s what one CheckINN Direct advocate told us after saving nearly $7,000 on employee lodging in just six weeks:
“At one hotel, I had negotiated a rate of $100 a night. Your rate is $55 plus tax. That’s really noticeable…I can look at your Web site and instantly see which hotels are within my price range, so I no longer need to call around to get rate quotes.”
In other words, if you’ve got drivers, installers, construction crews or other employees frequently on the road, you can pay less for hotels AND save yourself time finding hotels and negotiating rates.
Not bad, huh? Particularly when CheckINN Direct requires are no contract commitments or annual minimum usage requirements.
2012 is just getting started, but there’s no need to waste any more time paying more for a hotel room than you have to. You easily can make 2012 the year that you get your company travel costs under control. In fact, you can sign up immediately.

CLC Lodging wants you to know that flu shots aren’t just for the young or old anymore, either. Everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccine each year. That’s been the recommendation of an advisory committee for the U.S. Center for Disease Control since February 2010.
Getting the flu is nothing to sneeze at. It can send you to bed in a hurry – and you certainly don’t want to jeopardize your work assignment while you’re on the road. There also can be serious complications, so don’t put yourself, your family or your co-workers at risk.
The shot itself couldn’t be easier – it’s over in a hurry and really doesn’t hurt. (Here’s a tip: Just shake your arm a little to relax and loosen up your muscles before the shot is administered.) Many people choose to get the shot in the same arm they use to write since the movement during the rest of the day helps avoid soreness, too.
With grocery stores, pharmacies and discount stores on nearly every corner making them available, there’s no excuse not to get the shot. Flu.gov offers a handy nationwide locator to help you find a location that’s convenient for your schedule. Throughout flu season, practice good hygiene to help prevent the spread of germs. Frequently washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and traveling with anti-bacterial wipes are good practices to follow all year long.

Business travel is roaring back, with quarterly profits up in the hotel industry and the bookings for 2012 going strong. That makes the Hotel Savings Card from CLC Lodging an even better deal for any budget-minded businesses whose employees are regularly on the road and stay in mid-scale and economy hotels.
While the recession over the past four years has eased some pricing pressure on workforce travelers, don’t count on bargain rates to continue. The numbers show steadily growing business travel and bookings into 2012.
Average Daily Rate Up 4%
Citing TravelClick’s October 2011 North American Hospitality Review report for the next 12 months, a story in HotelNewsNow.com said “committed occupancy on the books is up 4.8% year-over-year, average daily rate is up 4%, and revenue per available room is tracking ahead by 6.5%.”
Q3 growth and profits are up in quarterly results announced recently by Choice and Wyndham hotel groups. That’s good news for the lodging industry and a positive sign for the U.S. economy, but your company travel budget may not appreciate the trends.
How to Save 20-40% on Hotels
But businesses who sign up for the Hotel Savings Card can use it to get 20-40% savings off hotels’ Lowest Published Rates on the Internet. Those pre-negotiated, non-public rates result from CLC’s volume discounts. Only CLC clients are eligible for the deeply discounted rates.
Your company saves time and money with the online account that tracks your company’s lodging invoices, an online directory showing more than 10,000 hotels where the card is accepted, and a Lowest Rate Guarantee.
No need to wait – your company can sign up for the Hotel Savings Card today and start saving tonight at www.checkinncard.com.

Check out the government’s weekly posting of gas and diesel prices across the country and you’ll see prices are up across the board. Any hopes of continued reductions in gasoline prices this summer appear to be dashed.
Fuel prices are up compared to both a week ago and a year ago. The national average for a gallon of gasoline, as of July 25, is $3.699. For diesel, it’s $3.949 per gallon.
That’s bad news for any companies with workforce travelers whose jobs put them on the road frequently.
If those prices – and the “heat dome” covering much of the country this summer – have you hot under the collar, there are some ways you can make your fuel dollars go further.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you’re losing money whenever you push your vehicle’s speedometer past 60 mph. That’s when gas mileage typically drops dramatically.
Think of it this way: you’re paying an estimated 29 cents per gallon extra for gas for every five miles per hour above 60 mph when you’re on the road. If you and your fellow company drivers slow down, you’ll save money.
You’re burning gas money when you idle, too. That practice uses anywhere from one-quarter to one-half gallon of gas or diesel per hour, taking engine size and use of the air conditioner into consideration. The Dept. of Energy advises it’s smarter to turn off your engine whenever your vehicle is parked since restarting the engine takes just a few seconds of fuel.
Don’t forget the cruise control when you’re traveling for business. Taking advantage of that device helps you maintain a constant speed, which aids fuel efficiency.
And when you’re ready to make your company’s travel budget go further, too, make sure you and your employees are carrying the CheckINN Card from CLC Lodging. Signing up for CheckINN Direct lets pay 20 to 40% off hotels’ lowest published rates at more than 10,000 hotels across the country.

With Q3 now under way, company travel budgets are under mid-year review. If your business is looking for ways to cut its workforce travel costs, here is what you should know.
Hotel discounts are getting tougher to find and many hotels are raising rates. As the lodging industry recovers from the economic downturn that forced prices down in recent years, the trend is toward higher hotel room costs.
When your company puts a hotel savings card like the one from CheckINN Direct in the hands of your drivers, crews, field reps and other employees who travel, you can cut costs by 20-40 percent immediately.
The cards are accepted at 10,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada, most often at economy and mid-scale hotels. Hotel savings cards are ideal for per diem travel and employees who typically don’t travel on company credit cards.
Thousands of companies already save with business lodging cards. A bonus is that any company can take advantage of these savings, no matter if they have lots of employees or just a few (it works for sole proprietors traveling on business, too).
CheckINN Direct also provides your company with an online account where your travel administrator can check hotel stays, track invoices and quickly reconcile credit card statements.
Hotel savings cards also provide immediate savings. With CheckINN Direct, your company can sign up today so your company’s workforce travelers can start saving tonight.

You know that CheckINN Direct helps you save money on hotel rooms when you and your employees are on the road. But did you know that in less than six months, new energy efficiency requirements will help your small business save money around the office?
Legislation passed in 2007 kicks in Jan. 1, 2012, to require common light bulbs to be about 25% more efficient than they are today.
Any incandescent 100-watt bulbs around your office no longer will fit the bill. But no need to worry: stores already are stocking the replacement bulbs required.
The good news about the switch is the new bulbs will cut your energy costs and they last longer, too. There’s more variety in bulb color than when the bulbs were new on the market, and many work on dimmer switches (but check the packaging to be sure).
If you’re concerned about high prices, check out what’s available. Prices have come down significantly from when energy-efficient bulbs first hit store shelves. As more products become available, costs are predicted to continue to fall.
To get up to speed on the new, energy-efficient lighting, here’s info from the U.S. Department of Energy about what’s available:
Halogen Incandescent bulbs last about three times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs, resulting in about 25% energy savings.
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) look like a curly version of a typical fluorescent light. You can expect these bulbs to last about 10 times longer than a comparable incandescent bulb and to provide about 75% energy savings.
Light Emitting Diode Bulbs (LEDs) give you 75-80% energy savings with this bulb version, and they last up to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs you now may be using.

Workforce travelers on the road July 1-4 saw gasoline and diesel prices that were lower than many have come to expect from a holiday weekend.
That’s a benefit for company travel budgets, particularly employers who use the hotel savings card program from CLC Lodging to save 20-40% off hotels’ lowest published rates.
So how are gasoline and diesel fuel prices looking this week?
Across the U.S., the average price of gas was at $3.579 a gallon, up a slight $0.005 from a week ago, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. However, most parts of the country saw declining prices from the previous week, with only the Midwest showing a higher cost (up $0.101 from a week ago).
Diesel fuel across the country was down across the board, with the average price declining $0.038 from a week ago.
In year-to-year comparisons, both gas and diesel fuel are up. The average price of gasoline is up $0.853 cents from where it was at this time in 2010, with diesel increasing $0.926 cents from last year’s prices.

In a recently completed analysis, CheckINN Direct examined the Lowest Published Rate for over 6,250 economy and midscale hotels. The result: Those prices went up $2.01 per room night. That’s 2.9% from January 2010 to March 2010.
At the same time that prices rose nearly 3%, CheckINN Direct member rates at the very same hotels rose by less than half that amount, or 1.4%.
Trust CheckINN Direct to help you control hotel expenses and to always save on your business lodging stays.
